If you’re like me and have traveled to a variety of countries without leaving your backyard, it’s time to pack your bags and do some real traveling. Let the me help make your next international excursion (“date”) a non-stop flight to everywhere.
Knowing some fun facts about someone’s culture, region or background can only make your date more interesting. Isn’t that what Google is for? Plus, you’ll probably have them booking two first-class tickets so you can meet the folks.
Dating outside of your culture or nationality can be challenging. However, “This is your captain speaking;” it’s time to give your date a trip beyond his or her expectations.
In honor of Black History Month and the melting pot of the world, I have compiled a few facts to show your Mr. International how worldly you really are. However, before I start, I must mention, I have had the pleasure of meeting, dating, visiting and of course…well, I’ll keep the rest to myself.

African-American History
Thomas L. Jennings (1791 – 1859) was the first to receive a patent in 1821. It was for a dry-cleaning process in 1821. He used the money earned from the patent to purchase relatives out of slavery.
Lee Elder – (1934 -) first golfer to play in the Masters Tournament in 1975. He has won 4 PGA tournaments and 8 Senior PGA tournaments.
Chinese Traditional Holiday
The Seventh Eve (7th of the seventh month) it is a traditional holiday almost lost to the younger generations today. It originates from a beautiful legend about a cowboy and a fairy that were cruelly separated and reunited once each year on this happy sad occasion.
Greece Festival
January 6th marks the traditional Epiphany celebrations in Greece. It’s celebrated throughout Greece, especially in coastal areas, but the idea of the “Blessing of the Waters” and the vessels that travel on that water which apply to lakes, ponds, and rivers.
Australian Facts
Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands. The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth. Australia is the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States and Brazil.
Interesting Italian Reading
A great novel set in Italy was Venetian Affair by Andrea Di Robilant. A love story comes back to life through the series of found letters that lay unscathed in an attic of palazzo along the Grand Canal.
Fun Japanese Fact
Karaoke was born in Japan over 30 years ago. There are more and more karaoke establishments that, in addition to allowing patrons to have fun singing, have expanded their services through such means as presenting customers with delicious food in a lavish space or giving them the opportunity to soak in a hot bath.
Russian History
The official name of Russia is the Russian Federation. Russian Federation came into being after former Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, into 15 separate geopolitical entities.
Interesting Brazilian fact
The largest stadium in the world can be found in Rio de Janeiro, it’s called Maracaña
Fun Facts about the Dutch
Amsterdam is entirely built on piles. The Dutch are the tallest people in Europe. The Netherlands has nearly 1,000 museums, with 42 in Amsterdam alone. The Netherlands” and “Holland” are used to describe the same country.
French – Oui Oui
The Eiffel tower was constructed so that they would have something very tall to wave a white flag from in case of attack. France is about the size of Texas
Fun Irish Fact
The last witch in Ireland was supposedly Dame Alice Kytler, born in Kilkenny in 1280. All four of her husbands died, and she was accused of poisoning them.Hopefully you see with a little research, help from Google, and a little effort on your part, dating can be a whole lot of fun!
