Fashion and technology have merged together to form a beautiful marriage.
Fashion and technology present modern fashion trends coupled with evolving technology and innovation. Such innovation serves to improve the design, manufacturing and merchandising processes within the apparel and accessories industries. Fashion merchandise has become multi-functional, manufacturing processes have shortened and merchandising trends include visually appealing technologically-driven signage and displays.
Today’s technological influence on fashion is reflected in such products as recycling, solar power, and kinetics in fashion.
Products such as jogging suits with embedded mp3’s, solar-powered handbag, eco-friendly fiber made from milk, leather mad from vegetables and the climate dress which offers a system monitoring air pollution levels with LED lighting, are prime examples of technologies being sought out by todays trendy, forward-thinking consumers.
Fashion brands such as Urban FLRT maximize innovation through the use of the dye process known as dye sublimation.
Dye sublimation is a process where the ink dyes the fabric. Dye sublimation utilizes CMYK (subtractive four-color model) which allows for multiple colors to be heat transferred directly to textiles. The end product affords fashion forward t-shirts such as the Urban FLRT CMYK bodies t-shirt (see right).
According to sustainable fashion experts, a few of the top technologies influencing fashion include: fabric produced out of food, dyeing apparel with air (sans water), digital printing, and online shopping tools identifying consumer’s measurements. As technological trends within fashion continue to evolve, we can expect to see products providing consumers with visual art, technology, and trendy fashions all wrapped up in one!
