As someone who develops concepts, I often have a different point of view when watching music videos. It’s where I gain information and become inspired. When I am sucked into a music video full of imagery combined with solid lyrics, I know how well a song will do in the marketplace. In addition to the imagery, the fashion and styling of the video and artist are keys to making a video stand out. Visually captivating videos become staples in our culture because they allow a viewer to escape into a fantasy world in minutes.
One video that did this for me is, Kelly Rowland’s “ICE” video ft. Lil Wayne. Honestly, it’s been something I’ve wanted to write about for some time. It was released in November, the start of winter. Who in the hell wants to hear or think about ice when it’s 30 degrees outside. The video is sexy, visually appealing, sensual, and has an element of style to it. However, I believe the timing of the release is why it peaked at 88 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles.
I decided to write about it now that the warmer weather is approaching. The bottom line…it’s a great, explicit song and video that’s filled with sex, fashion, passion and rhythmic tones.
