Looking for a job is something I believe a handful of people are dealing with and after responding to a friend’s despair, I wanted to share my response with everyone. Being positive through difficult times can be the death of us.
I know when I was unemployed with no clue how to stay positive I turned to meditation and my belief in God which allowed me to see beyond the dark clouds. I compare it to taking off on a cloudy day, it’s that moment when the plane takes off that you are positive the sun is above the clouds. It’s in a split second when the plane goes above the clouds that you realize the sun is always there right above the clouds.
My friend seemed depressed so I asked God to provide me encouraging words to help him see the light through this difficult time. Here is what I said to him:
“Stay positive and keep your head up. Having a job should never define you. Being employed is just a means in the physical sense of the word. Unemployment is not the end or control who you are, who you will be, who you want to be, or the thing you should use to be your authentic self. Having a job doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy your life. Life is free. However, I understand that money is a means to survival but it’s not what you need to enjoy living.”
