For several months I have been hearing that there was going to be a remake of the 1989 American comedy-drama “Steel Magnolias.” The original film was a major success with an all-star studded cast: Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. I finally got a chance to see a commercial for the remake during an episode of Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime. From the looks of it it’s going to be worth watching.

Although many may make reference that this time the remake will have an all African-American cast, I believe the true statement is that we have a new remake of “Steel Magnolias” filled with talented actresses who measure up to the talented women that were in the 1989 film. In our culture today someone’s ethnic background is always a point of discussion but in my opinion we are just dealing with another successful film with a long list of talented names like: Phylicia Rashad, Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad and Jill Scott.

Regardless of the color their skin, we can all agree the list of names makes up many talented, award-winning and nominated actresses who will not disappoint.

And with that said I’ll be watching
