Summer Days at Coney Island

Summer Days at Coney IslandWhy, you ask? Well, it’s because I love places that bring out the kid in me. There is much to be said about releasing the inner child and just having fun. So as the sun begins to shine brighter, I become more and more excited about the summer because I know there is much fun to be had.

Not long ago I was severally depressed and disappointed by the things the mirror of life was beginning to show me. It was something simple but I could never figure it out. I forgot the true meaning and essence of what it felt like to live. Like most, I was not ready to accept and deal with the choices I’d made which ultimately lead me into darkness. It wasn’t until I began to listen, believe and trust in the power of the divine that things started to turn around. Today I believe things happen for a reason and often we don’t know why we want to do the things we do.

During my deep depression I learned that there are only a few powers greater than the universe of the divine that can change the course of your life; one of those being the power of fun. Having fun and experiencing my inner child helped rid my life from darkness.

That’s why for the last three years, my best-friend, my life and my rock have ventured out to Coney Island…to have fun. We ride the rides, we laugh, we walk the boardwalk, we play the games, and we just have a good time. Coney Island you ask? Yes! It’s actually a new and improved Coney Island; nothing like I remember when I was growing up in the 70′s. It’s cleaner and there are brand new thrill rides that get the adrenaline pumping.

As an adult I can now appreciate the laughter and accept the power you gain when you ride something you are deathly afraid of. It’s the moment you exit that ride that you realize, “that was nothing!” Funny, in hindsight that was one thing I wasn’t telling myself during my deep depression. Life is easy once you face it and go on the ride we call life. With all its ups and downs and sharp corners, it really is “nothing.” The important thing is that you face it and try to enjoy the experience.

New York City and the urban lifestyle can be magical to experience. It’s a playground of hopes and dreams! It offers so much. It’s a place that also cures so many things if you allow it and take advantage of the fun you can have in a vibrate city like New York. Visiting Coney Island for me was the place where I believe I learned to have fun again. Knowing what I know now, I cannot wait to visit the place that makes me scream, laugh, crave a Nathan’s hotdog, and remind me what life is about, fun!
